Hamburger-Vegetable Soup

1 lb. ground beef
1 cup onion, diced
1 cup potatoes, diced
1 cup celery, cut into pieces
1 c. carrots, sliced 
4 c. canned tomatoes, petite cut
1/4 c. uncooked rice
3 c. water
3 t. salt
1/4 t. basil
1/4 t. thyme
1 bay leaf  

Cook the ground beef and onion until no longer pink
Drain off excess fat
Combine with the remaining ingredients in a large pot
Simmer covered for 1 hour stirring occasionally. 

This soup freezes well for future use.
