Baking Powder Biscuits
from Mabel Beam
2 c. sifted flour
4 t. baking powder
1/2 t. cream of tartar
1/2 t. salt
2 T. sugar (scant)
1/2 c. butter
2/3 c. milk
Mix the dry ingredients together.
Cut the butter into the flour mixture with a pastry blender until
it is like coarse crumbs. Add the milk and stir to make a stiff
dough. Put out on a floured board and knead a few times. Shape the
dough into a ball and roll out to about 1/2 inch thick. Cut with
a floured biscuit cutter or what ever you have that will make
nice sized biscuits. Put the biscuits on a greased pan, touching
each other. Bake for 12-15 minutes at 450 degrees.
