Aunt Icel's Sugar Cookies
Cream together:
1 C, sugar
1 C. powdered sugar
1 C. softened (not melted) butter
Add and beat well:
1 C. oil
2 eggs (well beaten)
2 t. vanilla
Whisk together and blend in:
1 t. cream of tartar
1 t. baking soda
5 1/4 cup flour
Refrigerate 2 hours or over night. Make into balls with your hands and roll in sugar. Put balls on parchment lined cookie sheet (I like the air filled cookie sheets).
Flatten with a glass with a decorated bottom dipped in sugar. You may sprinkle colored sugar on before baking for a festive look. Bake in preheated oven, 350 degrees for 12 to 15 minutes. The edges should just barely start to brown. When slightly cool remove to a cooling rack and let cool completely. This recipe can easily be cut in half.
